3 Tips for Great Eating, Even on Vacation

Eat better on vacation

Summer vacations, or winter vacations if you’re escaping the cold Quebec, are often associated with delicious lunches or dinners in the sun with friends or family, with appetizers, picnics, cool ice cream and beautiful sunsets on the beach…

It’s no secret that we want to spoil ourselves during our vacations, and that’s perfectly normal! So, how do you keep a great diet while on vacation without becoming frustrated? Discover the most important vacation tips right here to help you:

Eat sparingly during your vacations

It would be a shame to miss out on a great opportunity to eat while on vacation. Instead of being restrictive and depriving yourself of everything around you, consider eating what gives you pleasure in a more reasonable manner.

For example, instead of eating several ice creams throughout the day, tell yourself that one will suffice to satisfy your craving. The same is true for alcoholic beverages: we prefer one or two glasses of wine sipped slowly rather than a whole bottle finished in one evening.

Furthermore, try to combine gourmet and good food as much as possible. Do you enjoy desserts? You can opt for a low sugar Greek yogurt. You will love ending your meal with it. Moreover, fruits and vegetables, in general, are welcome and can be prepared in a gourmet manner, as a dessert or a dish!

Our advice is to live in the moment. It’s not a big deal if you get hungry! Consider eating more slowly to savor your food; digestion will be better, pleasure will be greater, and satiety will be greater.

Eating well on vacation by eating a balanced diet

Consuming fruits and vegetables is not the only way to eat great. You will need to accompany your vegetable recipes with proteins (meat or fish for carnivores, eggs or vegetables for vegetarians) to create a complete and well-balanced plate.

Important note: instead of using store-bought sauces, make your own. Nothing prevents you from adding fat, salt, and sugar while keeping your proportions in check. Olive oil, sesame seed purée, and pine nuts are all natural fats that are nutrient-dense, naturally salty, and delicious.

The golden rule for eating well during the vacations: listen to your hunger

Vacations are frequently associated with snacking because our meal patterns are disrupted by our leisure activities and outings, and the opportunities to eat multiply! Rest assured that not eating at a set time is not dramatic if you listen to your body. It will tell you when it is hungry and when it needs energy.

When you’re eating, try to know when you’re full. If you feel bloated or tired after eating, you probably ate too much.

Here are some suggestions to help you return from your vacation without overeating. But don’t forget the most important thing: have fun on your vacation days!
