Two massive skating rinks are opening in Ottawa this week, two more next week

Although the magnificent ‘World’s Longest skating rink’ won’t be open for several more weeks, there are hundreds of outdoor skating options in O-Town and the skating season in our nation’s capital all gets started tomorrow! That’s right, sharpen your blades and lace up your skates: The Jim Tubman Chevrolet Rink opens tomorrow and Lansdowne Park Skating Court is scheduled to open on Friday to kick-off the new skating season.

Next week City Hall’s Rink of Dreams and Centrepointe’s Ben Franklin Skating Rink are also expected to open – weather permitting.

Access to these outdoor refrigerated ice surfaces is on a first-come, first-served basis. Each rink has its own capacity limit, based on the size of the ice surface, to ensure all skaters can maintain proper physical distancing.

When using the rinks, think about other skaters by practicing COVIDwise etiquette and limiting your ice time to 30 minutes during busy times so everyone can get a chance to skate.

Ottawa Public Health reminds everyone that staying active is important to you and your family’s physical and mental health.

So get ready to grab your toque (or helmet), gloves and parka and get outside for a skate on one of Capital City’s freshly Zambonied ice rinks.

Throughout the season, visit ottawa.ca for skating times and any weather-related closures – such as warm or rainy conditions. Residents can also download the free City of Ottawa App, available now through the Apple Store (link is external) or on Google Play (link is external), to get notifications on their handheld devices.
