Saint-Gabriel-de-Valcartier, PQ, December 21, 2021 – Its building site of snow and ice has already been swarming for a few weeks, and Hôtel de Glace is now ready to unveil the artistic theme that will become its headliner for winter 2022. In these times in which travel has lost its simplicity and spontaneity, Hôtel de Glace has taken upon itself the mission of making its visitors travel the world. This season, the hotel design will be inspired by signature touristic spots from all over the planet.
Amazing postcard for Quebec winter
A major tourist attraction for the region for more than 20 years, Hôtel de Glace invites both local citizens and travellers from abroad, to tour the globe through its new hotel route for visitors. The journey will present various wonders of the world, all sculpted in snow and ice.
“The objective of this annual theme is to offer a change of scenery to our visitors and allow them to travel through a unique activity that presents art on ice. As travel is no longer as easy and accessible as before, we want to be a unique destination for Ontarians, Americans and of course, Quebecers. » explains Sylvain Lauzon, President and Chief Operating Officer for the Calypso Valcartier Group.
Families first!
As tradition dictates at Hôtel de Glace, young and old alike have access to an entertainment area with a play zone, with the highlight being a huge ice slide. Also, in line with the travel theme, families will take off into space and this year, as this family spot will be designed under the theme of the cosmos.
A tremendous construction and an early opening
About fifty people work on building the hotel each year, a project that takes around 6 weeks overall. Whether it’s on the snow, ice, machinery or the artistic side of things, hard work goes on day and night in order to open to the general public as quickly as possible. Hôtel de Glace will be open for overnight accommodations starting on January 2nd, 2022, and plans to open its doors to daily visitors as soon as possible during the holiday season. Needless to say, Mother Nature’s collaboration will be decisive on the exact opening date.
To enjoy Valcartier’s winter wonderland starting now, the Winter Playground (located next to the Hôtel de Glace) is already open, with slides and snow rafting. It is the largest playground of this type in North America.
2021 WINNER AT THE CANADIAN TOURISM AWARDS
Its activities have yet to begin and Hôtel de Glace (Québec City) is already getting honoured on the national and local scenes. The Canadian Tourism Awards were recently unveiled by the Tourism Industry Association of Canada (TIAC), and recognized Hôtel de Glace’s best practices, with the Air Canada Business Excellence Award (one of the four categories presented). In addition, Hôtel de Glace also stood out at the last Fidéides Gala (presented by the Quebec Chamber of Commerce and Industry), by winning the honor of Tourist Attraction and Event of the year. It goes without saying that the organization is still riding high, even after more than 20 years of activities.
