Ottawa, Kingston and Belleville communities invited to turn chips and guac into hope from March 23 to May 10
Lone Star Texas Grill is inviting Ottawa, Kingston and Belleville communities to come together for a cause that is both deeply personal and profoundly impactful.
From March 23 to May 10, 2026, $1 from every tableside smashed guacamole purchased at participating Lone Star locations will be donated to The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) to support childhood cancer research.
Guac for Griff was inspired by Griffin Bell, the son of former Lone Star employees Tamy and Evan Bell, whose courage and joy left a lasting impact on everyone around him. Born nearly three months premature, Griffin was diagnosed with neuroblastoma at just 16 months old and bravely fought for years before passing away in March 2024 at 6 years old. During his treatment, Lone Star became a special family tradition and remains a way his family honours him each month.

“Griff absolutely loved Lone Star. It was a comfort for him. It was something happy in the middle of very hard days,” says Tamy Bell, Griff’s mother and former Lone Star employee. “If ordering guacamole can help another family avoid what we went through, then that’s something really special. This campaign means the world to us.”
Only seven percent of cancer research funding is directed toward childhood cancers. Guac for Griff aims to raise both awareness and critical funds to help change that.
“We wanted to create something that felt hopeful and accessible,” says Caley French, Vice President of Marketing at Lone Star Texas Grill. “Guacamole is already a guest favourite and part of the Lone Star experience. Turning it into a way to support CHEO felt like a natural and meaningful way for our guests to give back while doing something they already love.”
The campaign runs at all eight Ottawa-area locations, one Kingston location and one Belleville location. Guests can participate by ordering the freshly made tableside smashed guacamole, with a portion of proceeds supporting CHEO. An in-store QR code will also offer the option to make an additional direct donation, if desired.
“Griff reminded everyone to live fully and make memories,” added Bell. “If the community can come together over a meal and help other kids fighting cancer, that is a beautiful way to honour him.”
Lone Star is encouraging friends, families and coworkers to dine out, share chips and guac and rally around a local cause that affects so many in the community.
