OTTAWA, Feb. 18, 2024 – Just in time for the last couple of days of Winterlude, the National Capital Commission says a section of the Rideau Canal Skateway will reopen today, Sunday February 18, 2024. The open section is located between Pretoria and Bank St.
However the NCC tweeted that the section will not be in great shape due to early morning snow on Sunday, and that it will close again at 6 pm to allow for proper maintenance to prepare the section again for Family Day.
“As a result, while the ice is thick enough to make it safe to be on the Skateway when we open at noon, the ice is in very poor condition, so we recommend walking over skating,” reads the tweet by @NCC_Skateway on X.
“Our crews will be hard at work again to improve conditions,” reads another post by NCC.
Due to the poor skating conditions, boots are recommended on the skateway today. Look forward to better skating conditions and get ready to lace ’em up on Family Day.
