OTTAWA, January 9, 2024 – A winter storm warning has been issued for Ottawa by Environment and Climate Change Canada for Tuesday into Wednesday. ECCC warns of an “Impactful winter storm this afternoon into Wednesday.” Ottawa area residents can expect from 10 – 20 cm of messy snow to fall when all is said and done.
Freezing rain and ice pellets
Snow is expected to be accompanied by a few hours of freezing rain and ice pellets.
The storm will roll through Ottawa this afternoon and to continue through Wednesday morning.
Snow changing to freezing rain tonight
ECCC says that the snow will likely change to ice pellets or freezing rain tonight. Several hours of freezing rain are possible, particularly in the Ottawa Valley.
How much snow will hit Ottawa
The amount of snow will depend on how quickly precipitation changes to ice pellets or freezing rain, although some locations may receive 10 to 20 cm of snow.
Hazards
ECCC warns that as usual with winter storms, travellers can expect surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots to become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.
