Winter weather advisory issued for Ottawa area (January 29/2023)

OTTAWA, January 29, 2023 A Winter weather travel advisory has been issued today by Environment and Climate Change Canada for Ottawa and most of southern Ontario. Most of the expected snow will arrive Sunday late afternoon into the evening, and snowfall accumulations are expected to be in the 10 – 15 cm range in Ottawa.

Weather advisory in effect for:

  • Ottawa North – Kanata – Orléans
  • Ottawa South – Richmond – Metcalfe

ECCC says that with the Winter weather travel advisory in effect for today hazards include:


Snowfall accumulations of 10 to 15 cm.
Slippery surfaces due to accumulating snow.
Reduced visibility in snow.

Timing:
Now through this evening.

Snow is expected to continue this afternoon before coming to an end late this afternoon or early this evening.


Snowfall warnings may be required for portions of the area today if snowfall amounts exceed 15 cm within 12 hours.

Motorists should expect hazardous winter driving conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery.
