OTTAWA, December 31, 2025 — Happy (almost) New Year! The NCC is delighted to announce the start of the Rideau Canal Skateway’s 56th season, just in time to ring in the new year! On Wednesday, December 31, at 8 am, a 3.4-km section from the Somerset West access point to the Bank Street Bridge will open to skaters.
The colder weather in December has provided ideal conditions for the skateway’s operations team.
More sections of the Skateway should open as soon as ice conditions permit.
