NAC boasts a jam-packed line-up for June

The month of June is is bursting with exciting events at the National Arts Centre. From National Indigenous History Month shows to Pride performances, a major awards show and of course exciting theatre, there is a whole lot going on at the NAC. Here is a quick snapshot of the month ahead, kindly provided by the kind folks at Canada’s premier performing arts centre!

National Indigenous History Month lineup at NAC

This National Indigenous History Month, the Kipnes Lantern features Genetikos II by Richard Heikkilä-Sawan, a Two-Spirit artist exploring identity, race, and social ideologies through vibrant artwork. 

Throughout June, the NAC is featuring Indigenous artists in a curated collection of activities and events. Highlights include the comedy show Got Land?Indigenous Trivia Night, the theatre production You Used to Call Me Marie, and a Summer Indigenous Art Market!

NAC celebrates Pride Month

Canada’s hit queer podcast Resurrection is going live at the NAC! Join in the fun on June 13 for A Michael Callen Cabaret — a show that’s half-podcast, half-cabaret, all about the life and music of early AIDS activist Michael Callen. Free admission

A singer and songwriter, Michael became involved with AIDS activism in New York in the early 1980s and is largely credited with inventing safe sex, saving countless lives. Come hear the story and the music of this hero of the AIDS movement. 

This show is presented in partnership with Capital Pride

Montreal-based songwriter Bells Larsen will be performing at the Fourth Stage on June 14 with his folk-inspired sound that weaves together cathartic lyrics and memorable melodies.

2024 Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards

Taking place on June 8 at Southam Hall, the NAC is hosting an exciting and elegant celebration of Canada’s highest honour in the performing arts! 

The NAC says, “The 2024 Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards (GGPAA) for Lifetime Artistic Achievement recognize artists who have made an indelible contribution to cultural life in Canada and around the world.”

What’s planned

The evening will kick-off at 6:30 pm, with red-carpet arrivals of this year’s Laureates and special guests starting at 7:00 pm. This is followed by a series of amazing, touching and incredibly moving tribute performances highlighting the accomplishments of the Laureates (show commencing at 8:00 pm in Southam Hall). It will be a wonderful evening of celebration, music, and dancing!

Your concert-only ticket, starting at $75 will provide you with an unforgettable evening of performances, an After-party with live band, The Rock Steadies, and cash bar in the Canal Lobby.
