OTTAWA, January 20, 2024 – The national Capital Commission just announced that they are raising the long-awaited green flag over the Rideau Canal Skateway tomorrow, January 21 at 9 am, marking the official opening of the 54th skating season.
What sections will be open
A 1.9 kilometre section between the Pretoria Bridge and the Bank Street access points, will be open to skaters. After a mild start to winter, the colder temperatures of the last two weeks combined with excellent work by our teams allowed the Rideau Canal Skateway to reach a sufficient thickness of good quality ice. We continue to work to open more sections as soon as possible.
As you may recall, last year the Rideau Canal Skateway was never opened due to the temperatures not being cold enough to safely skate.
SHARPEN YOUR SKATES! 🙌🎉
