Canada’s national team can qualify from group F at Qatar 2022: World Cup odds, expectations and future bets

World Cup

Canada booked their position in Qatar, which subsequently ended a 36-year drought from World Cup qualification, and they emphatically achieved this goal. The Canadians were drawn into a tough qualification group, but we believe reaching the World Cup 2022 finals is a great possibility.

After the Canadian men’s soccer team returned to the World Cup for the first time since 1986, this wasn’t a huge surprise given the talent-depth in their squad; however, nobody could have expected them to achieve this triumph in such an authoritative way. They finished top of the CONCACAF table, remaining unbeaten until the final fixture.

With such an impressive outing, the Canadians’ are now gifted with their ticket to the World Cup 2022 tournament in November. Still, they’ll face stiff competition in Group F when clashing against Belgium, Croatia, and Morocco.

And although it’s been a gruelling 36-year wait for Canada’s chance at the World Cup combined with a difficult draw, they won’t arrive in Qatar as a filler – advancement to the knockout stage is a genuine possibility.

Formation adaptability and tactical edits are crucial in finding success during international soccer tournaments, and John Herdman has already proved his worth in this approach with the flexible squad he built during the qualifying stages. This adaptability – and recent history of switching up their style – will assist the Canadians in finding success versus Group F.

The on-pitch speed of Alphonso Davies and Tajob Buchanan could become a problem for the ageing squads that Belgium and Croatia are flying to Qatar. Stephen Eustaquio is a sharpshooter in his delivery, and the elite counter-attacking of Jonathon David could be a difference-maker.

The two problematic teams for Canada in their Group F battle will unquestionably be Belgium and Croatia; however, their most notable stars aren’t getting any younger, and the Great White North’s youthful burst has a great chance of causing an unexpected result.

Croatia was underwhelming during the Euro 2021 competition, barely surviving an average group stage, as Belgium’s most notable squad in decades continued their trend of failure when exiting from the Euros 2021 and Russia 2018 in the quarterfinals.

Elsewhere in Group F, we have Morocco; the only team ranked lower than Canada in the official rankings. They should provide a similar difficulty to what Canada has been used to during their CONCACAF qualification experience.

It will be a nerving affair for this young Canadian team, but the talent and tactical potential gives them a massive chance of navigating their way into the knockout stages.

Canada World Cup 2022 Future Bet: Qualify from the group (+275)

Ontario sports betting apps will provide a tempting set of odds for Canada to qualify from Group F. When you combine this incredible betting value with Canada’s legitimate chance of success, it’s a no-brainer wagering opportunity.

Suppose I’m going to support a team at the sportsbook. In that case, I want one that can boast a desirable attacking talent, and Canada’s strongest suit is its ability to deliver when moving forward. Alphonso Davies will go down as Canada’s most talented soccer player in their team’s history, and aged just 21 years old; he’s only getting started. The Bayern Munich left-back is additionally a multi-position player, as Herdman won’t be afraid to position him on the left side of the front four.

He’s Canada’s soccer equivalent of Tom Brady, and he can single-handedly give them three points in Qatar with his talent alone.

On the opposite side is Tajob Buchanan, a former New England Revolution standout who made his presence known in 2021 and recently moved to Club Brugge in Belgium.

Buchanan’s style is complementary to Davies, and the duo will pose a threat in games where they’re counter-attacking style will be required due to the level of competition.

Davies and Buchanan are on either side of a front two-wrecking team in Cyle Larin and Jonathan David. Larin scored 14 times in 13 appearances for Canada in 2021, and he recently became their record goalscorer with an additional two scored in ’22.

Along with Ike Ugbo – a former Chelsea youth player – he’s the final piece of this Canadian attack force that will be an overlooked and underestimated group. Still, I believe they could prove to be one of the best underdogs of the tournament.
