Hailing from Montreal, Ottawa rock and reggae royalty, Bedouin Soundclash will be making a stop at Ottawa’s Shenkman Arts Centre on Friday, March 6.

Over the years Bedouin Soundclash has been celebrated at home and abroad with JUNO awards, Top 10 radio hits, and international tours with No Doubt, Ben Harper, The Interrupters, and Thievery Corporation. This year they are here with a tour with a stop in Ottawa!

With five studio albums and numerous JUNO Awards and nominations, including Canada’s Best New Group in 2006, they are perhaps best known for songs such as When the Night Feels My Song and Walls Fall Down, and they are a must-see live.

Formed nearly two decades ago in Montreal, Bedouin Soundclash debuted in 2001 with the album Root Fire. Their acclaimed sophomore release Sounding a Mosaic (2004) featured, as mentioned, the hit single, “When the Night Feels My Song” and was produced by legendary punk-hardcore royalty Darryl Jenifer of Bad Brains. This earned Bedouin Soundclash their first JUNO Award in 2006 for Canada’s Best New Group.

Their follow-up album, Street Gospels (2007) also produced by Jenifer, earned a “Pop Album of the Year” nomination and “Video of the Year” nomination for the single “Walls Fall Down” at the 2008 JUNO’s as well as three Much Music Video Award nominations for their video for “Until We Burn in the Sun” in 2009.

A natural-born vocalist, soul singer & songwriter Clerel nurtured his taste for melody in his coastal hometown of Douala, Cameroon, where he grew up listening to music from his parents’ record collection, which ranged from church hymns and afrobeat to French chanson. While he’s spent most of 2020 working on a new collection of songs, Clerel has also appeared on reality TV show La Voix (The Voice Canada), and this past summer, he took part in the Montreal International Jazz Festival, where he gave a highly acclaimed performance of his original music. Listeners around the world continue to fall in love with the young musician’s soulful universe.

“He’s the discovery of the year in Montreal, […] If this guy doesn’t explode and become a superstar, I don’t know what’s happening.” – Laurent Saulnier, President, Montreal Jazz Fest, in Montreal Gazette (2025)

Now is the chance to see this incredible band in the intimate setting of Ottawa’s own, Harold Shenkman Hall.
