Celebrate National Health and Fitness Day on June 5 by getting out and active in Ottawa
Canada is celebrating National Health and Fitness Day on Saturday, June 5. This year’s theme is “Show us your moves.” To help celebrate, the City of Ottawa is offering FREE virtual yoga and Zumba classes to help get you moving that day.
Ottawans can register at ottawa.ca/virtualprograms for the free virtual classes for all ages and abilities on Saturday, June 5 at these times:
- Zumba at 9:45 am
- Yoga at 3:45 pm
The City points out that this year more than ever, exercising at home or outdoors is so important to your overall physical and mental health.
So c’mon Ottawa, don’t limit your activities to the indoors. Get out and can enjoy the sunshine and fresh air in tour beautiful Nation’s Capital by walking, cycling and jogging while practising all COVID-safety precautions. These include staying two metres from people outside your household and wearing a mask when it’s difficult to maintain physical distancing.
And the City of Ottawa is asking you residents to be sure to challenge your family, friends and colleagues to get active and prove it by posting a picture or video on social media using the hashtag #showusyourmoves. For example, our own Dexter the Parkasaurus has challenged other mascots from across Ottawa to show their moves.
Remember that better days are ahead and the City is excited for when we can welcome back residents to all the many programs and activities at their recreation centres – both indoors and outside. Stay tuned this summer for our fall recreation guides to keep you moving through the rest of the year.
