OTTAWA, Feb. 19, 2024 – Ottawans and visitors will be happy to learn that the National Capital Commission (NCC) has just announced that a section of the Rideau Canal Skateway is open as of noon today for safe skating.

NCC says, “Multiple consecutive cold nights helped to firm up the ice surface, and a section of the Rideau Canal Skateway is now open to the public.”
“Last night we swept, graded and flooded the ice. Conditions are still variable. Our teams are working to improve the surface, and the cold is going to help firm everything up,” reads the tweet from NCC.
It is greatly advised that you check the ice conditions on the interactive map, as conditions are variable. Change rooms are open, but some services may not be available.
Take advantage of Family Day to go skating on this national treasure. It is truly a Canadian bucket list experience!
